He has also been working in the field of Process Improvement for over 18 years and was previously Quality Manager and Lean Manager for one of Northern Ireland's largest automotive production plants.

Course Objectives:
Implementation of Lean is most effective when applied strategically within the context of the value stream. In this two day course, participants are taken through a step by step guide to development of a current state map, examination of the map to identify and prioritise subsequent improvements and development of a future state map. Day one is conducted in the classroom and day two is spent on the shop floor, applying the learning within a real value stream.
Contents:
- Overview of Lean strategy and the purpose of the Value Stream Map
- The concepts of Value Add, Non value Add and the seven wastes
- The concept of Takt time
- Value Stream calculations and Lean metrics
- Selecting and defining the Value Stream to be mapped
- the current State map
- The Lean Value Stream
- Introduction to the three types of Flow; material, process, information
- Pull systems, Kanban and supermarkets
- Constraint management
- The Pacemaker and levelling the production mix
- Development of the Future State Map and the plan to get there
