The trainer for this course holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is also an MBA Graduate. He is a member of the Chartered Quality Institute and holds the Six Sigma Black-Belt qualification. He has also been working in the field of Process Improvement for over 18 years and was previously Quality Manager and Lean Manager for one of Northern Ireland's largest automotive production plants.

Six Sigma is a powerful data driven approach to problem solving proven to yield breakthrough improvements in customer satisfaction and cost reduction. Its application ranges from solving individual problems to use as a strategic business improvement tool. This course provides an overview of the Six Sigma methodology, the potential benefits, when it should be employed and the techniques used at each stage.

- The Problem with Variation
- What is Six Sigma: History, methodology, examples of its use and relationship with other continuous improvement methodologies
- Key Six Sigma concepts: Common cause and special causes defects, Y=F(X), Statistical thinking, Hidden factory and Cost of Poor Quality
- Roles and behaviours within Six Sigma
- Project selection, scoping and execution
- The Six Sigma improvement process
- - Define: The problem statement, the team charter, SIPOC and the ‘As is’ process
- - Measure: KPIs, attribute and continuous data, Sample size, gauge R&R, process capability
- - Analyses: 5 Whys, CE diagram, graphical analysis, Pareto, time series charts, hypothesis testing, Design of Experiments
- - Improve: Generate, select, optimise
- - Control: Re-baseline, sustain the gain, Poka-Yoke, SPC, FMEA
